Emma Green thought her life was already complicated enough, but an unexpected transfer completely shattered her world. She never imagined that her new life at a high school in New York would become an inescapable trap. Her family was broken, her father’s indifference, and her mother’s disappearance left her adrift like an island in this bustling city. When she arrived at a school named "Angel High," Emma discovered that every "angel" there had a dark side. And the girl sitting next to her, Sophie Miller, mysterious and captivating, turned out to be the biggest enigma in her life. On the surface, Sophie appeared cold and elegant, but beneath that exterior, she harbored secrets so deep they were impossible to fathom. Sophie’s past, her family, and her thoughts—all of these were slowly closing in on Emma, pulling her into a whirlpool from which she couldn’t escape.

Chapter 1
The evening breeze lightly lifted the strands of Emma Green’s hair. The music from her headphones played at a slow, soothing pace as her pale green skirt gently brushed against the railing, getting caught on a wire.
Emma crouched down and carefully freed the fabric, just as a black car pulled away.
She took off her headphones and went downstairs. The house was empty, her expression emotionless. Her phone vibrated.
“Dad.” Emma Green said, absentmindedly rubbing her fingers together.
There was a lot of noise on the other end of the line. After a long pause, a serious voice finally responded.
“Emma, your dad and I are out taking care of something. If you don’t need anything urgent, just talk to Jack.”
Emma couldn’t help but scoff internally. To put it simply, he didn’t want to be disturbed while he and his beloved Lily Harper were off doing their thing.
She lowered her gaze. “Dad, it’s already the 8th. I need to go to D city to take care of my school transfer.”
The voice on the other side was quiet for a long moment before the background noise faded. “Alright, if you need anything, just talk to Jack. I’ll make sure the transfer’s handled.”
“Okay.” Emma grabbed a bottle of soda from the fridge. After she said this, the line went dead. Clearly, he was busy.
Lily Harper was probably busy trying to flirt with him. Emma smiled faintly and shook her head. Their issues weren’t something she needed to get involved in.
Condensation began to form on the bottle of soda, and Emma casually placed it on the table. She booked a train ticket for 6 a.m. the next morning and let her hair fall loosely over her shoulders, looking gentle and serene under the dim light.
She probably wouldn’t be able to sleep, so she decided to play a game with her friend.
RiversWild: Emma, you’re going to D city for school?
zzzz: Yeah, baby. Don’t miss me too much.
RiversWild: Stop joking, tell me what’s really going on.
zzzz: Aunt Lily’s pregnant. It’s getting crowded at home, so I figured it’s a good time to change the scenery.
RiversWild: No way! Your dad’s what, fifty or so? Having a kid at his age?!
John Green’s family wasn’t originally rich, but with his smooth talk, he managed to marry a wealthy family’s daughter, fought for years, and finally built up his wealth. However, he kept avoiding marriage, which left Jiang Yan with no status, despite being with him for so long. Over time, Jiang Yan grew uncomfortable, insisting they get married. It was as if all her former grace as a high-society lady had vanished. Eventually, John Green, in his thirties, reluctantly married Emma Green’s mother. After some tumultuous years, they divorced, and he went through even more drama before marrying Lily Harper. The age gap was significant.
zzzz: Old man still has the stamina, huh? Anyway, you ready for some gaming?
RiversWild: Of course, I’m staying up all night with you!
Emma Green played her game, occasionally hearing sound effects from the game world.
The next morning, as the sky started to brighten, Emma Green, with dark circles under her eyes, waited by the door with two suitcases and a backpack.
“Aren’t you the one who booked this ride?” a voice called out.
“Yeah.”
The driver, seeing she was just a girl, kindly helped her place one of her suitcases in the trunk.
It was still early, so there weren’t many people on the train. Since she’d already booked her ticket on the app, she went straight through security.
After security, she proceeded to the ticket check.
With the help of the staff, she stowed her luggage and finally sat down.
RiversWild: Did you get on?
zzzz: I did, but it’ll still be a while before we depart.
RiversWild: Alright, I’m going to sleep then. We played all night yesterday.
zzzz: Yep.
Emma Green leaned back in her seat, closing her eyes for a moment, feeling the weariness from last night’s gaming session.
The surrounding area was eerily quiet, with only the sound of footsteps and the occasional murmur of staff.
Someone sat next to her, and Emma Green caught a faint scent. It was probably another girl.
