He was a husband stuck in a loveless marriage. She was the wife of the man next door. David Turner never planned to fall for Michelle, the mysterious and seductive neighbor whose smile could melt winter. But when casual glances turned into late-night talks, and simple favors became shared secrets, he found himself walking a line he swore he\'d never cross. Her husband? Never home. His wife? Never warm. One night, a single phone call changed everything. A hotel room. A confession. A kiss he never should\'ve stolen. But the biggest shock? His wife was watching.

“I’m not buying it. The color’s too bright—it just doesn’t suit me… You guys go ahead.”
After dinner, Emily was curled up on the couch, chatting with a friend on the phone. She glanced over at David Turner, who was wiping the table, then coldly walked back into the bedroom.
The door slammed shut with a loud bang.
David paused for a moment but didn’t turn around. Of course, he understood exactly what Emily’s actions meant—her dissatisfaction with him, her frustration that he wasn’t making enough money.
Though resentment lingered in his heart, neither of them had the patience for arguments anymore.
Life, or marriage, had just become something to get through.
After tidying up, David grabbed a bag of trash and went downstairs, then found a quiet corner to light a cigarette.
“Hey, can you spare one?”
A soft, seductive voice came from nearby.
“Uh…”
It was Michelle, his next-door neighbor—graceful and alluring, with an effortless charm in the way she moved.
Before, they’d only nodded politely when they passed each other, rarely exchanging words.
But since the last time David had helped her reset a circuit breaker, they’d started to get a little closer.
“Where’s Carl?”
David’s nickname for Michelle’s husband, Carl Sanders, was “Carl” — a small-time contractor with thinning teeth, narrow eyes, and a petty look about him.
“Out again. This place might as well be a hotel for him…”
Michelle took the cigarette, tucked her hair back, and lit it with practiced ease.
“David, is Emily not around much these days?”
“She’s here.”
Michelle let out a knowing “oh” with a sly smile that made David blush.
He and Emily often quarreled over little things, and as their neighbor, Michelle naturally heard everything.
Her teasing was clear.
Sure enough, Michelle added, “Looks like you two have been getting along pretty well lately, huh?”
David chuckled but didn’t answer—some things were better left unsaid. As a man, he still wanted to keep a bit of dignity.
“Oh, by the way, do you know anything about computers? It’s late now, but if you’re free tomorrow, could you help me fix mine?”
Michelle stubbed out her cigarette and asked casually as she was about to leave.
“Uh… a little. I’ll take a look tomorrow.”
Knowing Emily would be working the night shift, David nodded in agreement.

After a full day at work, David Turner stopped by Michelle’s place before heading home, planning to fix her computer first.
Even though they’d been neighbors for years, this was actually David’s first time inside her apartment.
The layout was similar to his own, but Michelle’s place was noticeably nicer and more upscale.
The only problem was the mess—her intimate clothes were draped over the sofa and dining chairs, leaving David a bit unsure where to look.
“Hey, David, coming by so early? I thought you’d be—”
Michelle called out from the kitchen, wrapped in an apron and busy cooking.
“Just got off work. Figured I’d fix your computer before heading back.”
“Thanks, David. The computer’s in the study. I’ve got a dish simmering in the pot, so you go ahead!”
Michelle was easygoing and made David feel completely at ease. With that, she turned back to the kitchen.
The computer issue wasn’t complicated. David fixed it quickly, but then accidentally clicked on a folder filled with Michelle’s photos. After glancing at just one, his face flushed bright red.
“Uh… the computer’s fixed. I’ll be heading out now.”
David hurriedly left the study, while Michelle was examining a package nearby.
“David, should I pan-fry the fish before adding the water?”
“You should, to let it soak up the flavors. When the water boils, turn up the heat to reduce the sauce.”
Looking at the table already set with several dishes and two bottles of red wine, David suddenly felt hungry.
But this feast wasn’t for him—it was clear Michelle’s husband, Carl Sanders, would be home soon.
“Why don’t you cook this dish? I’m not very good with fish,” Michelle said apologetically, her eyes pleading a little.
“Well…”
David was about to decline, but since it was just a few minutes of work, he agreed.
Great.
What started as a simple favor was turning into being a servant.
Once freed, Michelle hummed a tune while arranging wine glasses and placing a bouquet of fresh flowers on the table.
Thinking about how he’d be eating instant noodles at home while the couple enjoyed fine wine and intimate moments, David suddenly found the fish in the pot unbearably bland.
