Content length:

Chloe Miller just wanted to live the easy life of a wealthy heiress. After all, she'd successfully saved her billionaire godfather, David, from his "villainous cannon fodder" fate, right? But fate had a twisted sense of humor—it made her the object of Liam Scott's obsession. It started at his first birthday party, where he bypassed every toy to tightly clutch her finger. At thirteen, he skipped grades to enter her university, telling her with an angelic smile, "See, Chloe? I caught up to you." On the night of his eighteenth birthday, he trapped her against him, his voice a dangerous, intimate whisper in her ear: "Chloe, I'll never let you go, until..." Until her godfather David, a former underworld legend, and his devastatingly beautiful friend Louis—a man who looked like a fallen angel—appeared behind them, radiating icy lethality.

Chapter 1
I woke up in a novel as the daughter of a vicious side villain.
I thought that as long as I changed my dad’s fate, I could finally kick back, live in peace, and enjoy the rich girl life.
I did not expect to get stuck with the male and female lead’s son, Liam Scott.
At his first birthday party, when they did that “pick an object and predict your future” game, he ignored everything and grabbed me instead.
When he was thirteen, he got into my university through a physics competition and blinked at me all innocent
“Chloe, see, I caught up to you.”
When he was eighteen, he trapped me under a streetlight, arms around me, his voice low and sticky against my ear
“Chloe, I’m going to cling to you until…”
“Until what?”
My dad’s cold, dangerous voice came from behind us.
“Liam, are you trying to live without your third leg?”
My dad’s villain best friend followed up, laughing under his breath.
Me “…”
Liam Scott “…”
In my dad’s CEO office
“I heard Liam Scott just got into Capital University?”
My dad’s so-called villain best friend, Louis Grant, was slouched on the couch, one leg swinging. He shamelessly grabbed an apple from my dad’s desk and bit into it with loud, crunchy satisfaction, his whole face lit with glee at someone else’s misfortune.
He was pushing forty, yet his looks had hardly faded. Those long, foxlike eyes of his were wicked and seductive, the kind of beauty that felt almost unreal.
My dad was the same. Time really did have a soft spot for pretty people. His face was still as handsome as ever, only his whole vibe had become calmer and more restrained.
“That little brat still barely has all his baby teeth. He’s not going to stir up much.”
Dad sounded pretty calm, if you ignored the way he was squeezing the file in his hand hard enough to wrinkle the paper.
“True. Liam’s only thirteen. Even if he does want to run off with your daughter, he has at least five years to go.”
Louis was clearly enjoying himself, stepping on every landmine he could find and poking at my dad’s already fragile, sensitive nerves.
My dad had been salty for years about Liam grabbing me at that first birthday party. He only managed to comfort himself with the thought that I was six years older. When Liam was in grade school, I would already be in college, so there was no way we would ever really cross paths.
Except
When Liam was five, Louis wanted to go visit the heroine and dragged me along.
That was when I met the five-year-old snow-white doll version of Liam.
The longevity pendant I had given him at his first birthday was still hanging around his neck. The three tiny bells beneath it chimed softly when he moved.
A bright red rose bloomed in his small hand. He held it out to me, shy and serious.
“Chloe, you’re as pretty as this rose.”
And of course my dad saw the whole scene.
Flirting at that age already. What was he going to be like when he grew up
That was the moment my dad completely lost it.
He had been guarding me like a dragon hoarding treasure ever since, doing everything in his power to make sure I never had the chance to get lured away by that kid.
Except
Was the child of the male and female lead ever going to be normal
He was thirteen and had already been admitted early to Capital University through a physics competition.
“Louis Grant”
My dad finally snapped, flinging a stack of files straight at Louis’s annoyingly pretty face.
Louis lifted a hand, caught the files, set them back on the desk, and raised both hands like he was innocent.
“Hey, hey, relax. Chloe is basically half my daughter too. I’m not exactly thrilled about her being carried off by that bastard Alexander Scott’s son…”
That was when I pushed the door open.
Both grown men immediately sat up straight.
I did not feel anything was off. I took out the lunch boxes I had brought and held them up.
“Dad, Louis, are you hungry?”
“Chloe is so thoughtful.”
Before my dad could move, Louis had already snatched one box, happily popping the lid open like he was about to dig into the best meal of his life.
My dad looked like he was in no mood to eat. He tried to sound casual.
“Chloe, have you been busy at school lately?”
I set the food down in front of him and folded up the bag.
“It’s okay. Capital University is starting the new semester this week. I’ve been doing volunteer work for freshman orientation. And now that I’m a sophomore, I have way more classes than last year.”
My dad frowned, clearly unhappy.
“It’s been so hot these days and you still went to volunteer. There’s no air-conditioning out there. Aren’t you roasting?”
“Dad, you think I want to be out there? I seriously need the volunteer hours and the credits.”
Dad “…”
Louis was eating while making faces at me, then changed the subject.
“Chloe, with your grades you could have skipped a year. Why didn’t you?”
I sat down in the chair, calm as ever.
“I like taking things one step at a time. What’s the point of skipping ahead?”
In my last life, I was an orphan. I grew up under bullying and humiliation, and for a while the director of the orphanage even had his eye on me and harassed me.
I never really had a normal childhood and I almost went down a very dark road.

Chapter 2
Back in my last life, if it hadn’t been for a kind girl named Chloe hanging on to me and refusing to let go, my values would have gone completely crooked.
I would have ended up just like this life’s dad and the resident villain, twisted to the core and ready to blow everything up the moment something went wrong.
After I grew up and made something of myself, I sponsored a lot of orphanages and kids in poor mountain areas. I kept thinking that maybe I could pull them up the way Chloe once pulled me up.
Then I died in a plane crash.
Next thing I knew, I was reborn straight into the world of this novel, as the daughter of a vicious cannon-fodder character who got killed off not long after he appeared.
His name in the book was David Miller.
In the original plot, both David and the villain Louis Grant liked the heroine. I worked my tail off to change David’s fate and managed to drag him off the original script, turning him into my very own golden ticket instead of a dead extra.
Louis, though, stayed exactly like the original storyline.
Completely gone over the heroine, crazy in love with her.
Too bad the male and female leads were the true fated couple. No matter how hard Louis chased, he never caught up. In the end he had no choice but to give up.
My dad was rich and powerful.
The villain uncle was also rich and powerful.
So what exactly was I supposed to be struggling for?
Obviously I was going to enjoy a carefree childhood, a normal school life, and stomp all over the other kids academically. I wanted to become that one dreaded benchmark every other student’s parents pointed at during report card season, the infamous “why can’t you be more like her” kid.
Playing that role felt amazing, honestly.
You know what I mean, right?
Louis let out a thoughtful little sound.
“Can’t argue with that.”
He added, “You know Liam Scott just got into Capital University, right?”
I nodded.
“Yeah. The whole campus is talking about it. A thirteen-year-old prodigy? Everyone’s at least a little curious and impressed.”
In my head I let out a low whistle.
Of course.
He really was the male and female lead’s son.
The genes were just as freakishly good as his parents’.
There was a sharp crack.
Dad had just snapped his disposable chopsticks in half.
“Dad? What’s up with you?”
Dad gave me a warm, fatherly smile.
“It’s nothing. Chloe, the tofu you made is really good.”
“…”
Louis carefully picked his words.
“Chloe, what do you think of Liam Scott?”
“???”
I shot them both a weird look and instantly understood what they were worried about.
I was irritated and amused at the same time.
“Think what of him? He’s thirteen. He’s basically a little brat who should still be in middle school. You really think I’m that shameless, going after a kid who’s still the precious future of the nation?”
Dad and Louis, in perfect sync, thought the same thing
We’re not worried about you clinging to him. We’re terrified he’ll cling to you.
I tried to calm them down.
“Relax. I’m not planning on dating anyone right now. And even if I did, I wouldn’t lose my mind and pick Liam. You two don’t have to act like the sky is falling.”
Dad and Louis “…”
Dad’s company was close to Capital University, only a fifteen-minute subway ride away.
That afternoon, the first day of the new semester was blazing hot.
Colorful welcome banners fluttered in the wind along the main road leading to the registration area, guiding the new students forward.
Every school had its own reception tent set up in a neat row, the department logos on the canopies standing out from far away.
I was wearing a white shirt and light blue jeans, a volunteer badge pinned to my chest. I sat at the School of Economics and Management’s table with a little handheld fan buzzing against my cheek.
All the other volunteers from my department had gone off to help the freshmen carry their luggage, so I was the only one left at the booth.
“Chloe.”
A gentle, pleasant voice sounded right by my ear.
I looked up.
A boy was standing just inside the shade of the tent, his figure slim, his features almost shockingly beautiful.
One hand hooked his backpack by a finger, the other pulled his suitcase along the ground. When he looked at me, his slightly upturned eyes curved, as if they were brimming with quiet affection.
He shrugged his backpack properly onto his shoulders and leaned down, fingertips resting lightly on the edge of the table.
The longevity pendant that usually lay flat against his skin slipped forward and hung in the air between us, swaying softly.
Silver. Delicate. Smooth and gentle in texture, yet cold to the touch.
Just like him.
He blinked those innocent, doe-eyed lashes at me, pretending to be troubled.
“You once said you’re six years older than me, so we can’t really hang out.”
The corners of his mouth lifted higher, his smile turning sly, like a cat that had just stolen a taste of cream.
“Look. I caught up to you, didn’t I?”
